Upset Watch: Most Likely 1st Round Upsets

It is March….We’re looking at the 4 most likely 1st round upsets from double-digit seeded teams.

#11 Virginia Tech over #6 Texas

We’ll start with the obvious one in Virginia Tech taking down Texas. Texas doesn’t catch a break as they have to face a surging Virgnia Tech who just won the ACC Tournament and took down Duke to do so. The Hokies have real potential to make a run and will beat Texas in the 1st round matchup. 

#10 Davidson over #7 Michigan State

This isn’t the same Spartans we are used to seeing under Tom Izzo. This group somehow made it to the #7 slot when we had them lower on our list and Davidson higher. The Wildcats pull off another Stephen Curry-like run and take down Michigan State. 

#11 Iowa State over #6 LSU

This is an odd matchup with us not liking either of the teams. Iowa State is underseeded and should’ve been in the #8-#9 matchup and are in the deeper conference. LSU was one of the top teams but looks much different now than at the beginning of the season. We think Iowa State will pull off the upset over LSU. 

#13 South Dakota State Jackrabbits over #4 Providence

In a trendy pick, we are siding with the South Dakota State Jackrabbits as a potential upset pick over the #4 Providence Friars. Iowa should’ve been in this game over Providence, but they aren’t and the Friars barely skated by throughout the regular season and we don’t know how they are going to manage against one of the best offenses in all of college basketball.
