Led by the #1 overall team in the nation, the West Region is a region that a lot of people are going to keep their eye on, especially with it also being Coach K’s final season. Will Coach K prevail for one last dance? Will Gonzaga prove why they deserve the #1 seed? Will any teams sneak into the final 4? We’re breaking down our 3 favorites of making it to Indianapolis.
Gonzaga – #1 Seed
The obvious answer is the #1 overall team in the country in Gonzaga. Gonzaga is led by two Wooden Award Candidates in Drew Timme and top NBA prospect Chet Holmgren. Gonzaga is the #1 team for a reason and they have the best chance of making it to the final 4 of any team in this bunch. The Bulldogs are top 5 in both offensive and defensive efficiency of the teams in this tournament and will be smooth sailing their way to the final 4 and potentially the national championship game.
Texas Tech – #3 Seed
Flashback to 2019, the Red Raiders defeated the Bulldogs to advance to their first final four in school history. Texas Tech is looking to repeat that feat with their best defensive efficiency in the tournament. Texas Tech is a great value bet for a team from the West Region to make the final 4 as all eyes will be on Gonzaga. The Red Raiders vs. Gonzaga is going to be a rematch for the ages in the Elite 8 and we can’t wait!
UConn – #5 Seed
A lot of eyes are on Duke as the #2 seed in this region, but one sleeper team people aren’t even considering in this region is the UConn Huskies. The Huskies have a tough draw for their 1st matchup against the Lobos followed up by a potential Sweet 16 matchup against the #1 team in the nation. If the Huskies can get past Gonzaga, they have what it takes to take down any other team in this region. The Big East school is one that can slide under the radar as a real threat.
