The waiver wire is the place to go to get the hottest players on the market, but there are still several players still available after the first couple weeks that should be on your add list if you need depth, are a sad Christian McCaffrey owner, or have had a couple receiving options not turn out well for you. These 4 players are rostered in less than 25% of ESPN Leagues and you need to get your claim in for them now before it’s too late.
Quarterback: Sam Darnold – Carolina Panthers
Darnold is on pace to win the most improved player award. Through the last 3 seasons, Darnold has had one of the lowest quarterback ratings of all starting quarterbacks, but this season he’s been one of the top as he’s helped the Panthers to a 3-0 start. Darnold is proving what happens when you give talent around him and actual decent coaching, neither of which he had with the Jets organization. Darnold is a great quarterback to have as a backup if needed.
Running Back: Chuba Hubbard – Carolina Panthers
This wouldn’t be a waiver wire pickup article if we didn’t include an injury replacement on this list. You already know why Hubbard is here and if you own Christian McCaffrey, we hope your waiver claim spot is better, otherwise you’ll be feeling the pain even more over the next month.
Wide Receiver: Hunter Renfrow – Las Vegas Raiders
Derek Carr is the current leader in passing yards in the entire NFL and has several weapons to thank for that including Darren Waller, Hunter Renfrow, and Bryan Edwards. Hunter Renfrow has gradually emerged into a bigger role of the Raiders offense as one of their top wide receivers. With the way Derek Carr is playing, Renfrow could end up seeing more touches as the season goes on gaining him more fantasy relevance.
Tight End: Dawson Knox – Buffalo Bills
Perhaps one of the most under the radar players, Dawson Knox is currently the 6th best tight end in ESPN PPR format. Knox is rather touchdown dependent to be a starting tight end, but the gap between the elite tight ends of Kelce, Waller, Kittle, and Hockenson to anyone else is a wide margin which does make a good argument for Knox being a streamer with upside on one of the best passing offenses in the league.
