Grading the De’Aaron Fox Trade

After the Luka trade shocked the NBA, another superstar is on the move ahead of the NBA trade deadline with De’Aaron Fox being shipped to San Antonio & Zach Lavine is reunited with Demar DeRozan in Sacramento. We’ll be looking at each team involved & what grade they earn for their part in this blockbuster deal.

Full Trade Details:

  • Sacramento Kings Receive: Zach Lavine, Sidy Cissoko, 2025 Hornets 1st Round, 2027 Spurs 1st Round, & 2031 Timberwolves 1st Round
  • San Antonio Spurs Receive: De’Aaron Fox & Jordan McLaughlin
  • Chicago Bulls Receive: Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, & 2025 Bulls 1st Round

Sacramento Kings Grade: B

The Kings were put in a difficult position where they were forced to trade their star player away. Fox did not want to resign with Sacramento when his contract was up and expressed his desire to go to San Antonio. The Kings did the opposite of how the Heat dealt with the Jimmy Butler situation and caved into the request. The Kings however did much better than the Mavericks did in the Luka-Anthony Davis trade. The Kings got 3 future 1st round picks with the Hornets pick likely to be a top 5 lottery pick. The Kings made the most out of their unfortunate situation.

San Antonio Spurs Grade: A

The Spurs got the best player in the deal and didn’t need to give up the world to land him. The Spurs now have an absolute playmaker who is only going to elevate the play of fellow superstar Victor Wembanyama. Wemby is the biggest winner of this trade and we look forward to seeing the success from this new dynamic duo.

Chicago Bulls Grade: D-

The Bulls lost the best player on their team & really only got a 1st round pick out of the deal & some bench players. The Bulls are one of the worst teams in the league and just got even worse. We’re not entirely sure why they did this trade & they were the clear loser of the 3 teams involved in the trade.
