Grading The Blockbuster Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis Trade

In arguably, one of the biggest & most shocking trades in the history of the NBA, the Mavericks are essentially sending Luka Doncic to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis. This trade is flipping the script for the entire NBA season upside down & is going to send shockwaves across the league. Los Angeles Lakers Grade: A+

The Lakers came out with the best player in the deal in Luka Doncic who is a top 5 player in the league. Luka is a generational talent and has been averaging near a triple double his entire career. The Lakers moved on from Davis who’s struggled with injuries in recent years and is past his prime. They were able to move Davis for a player who instantly catapulted them into a contender. With an aging LeBron, the Lakers just got the face of the franchise for the foreseeable future. 

Dallas Mavericks: D

This move made zero sense for the Mavericks and is one of the biggest fleece jobs by the Lakers in the history of trades. The Mavericks had their star, a fan favorite, and someone who loved playing in Dallas. They instead traded him away for Anthony Davis who’s years past his prime, a bench player in Max Christie, & a pick that’s 4 years away. The Mavericks now have a roster of Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, & Anthony Davis, all players in their 30’s with expensive contracts and not playing up to them. This was a poor move for the Mavericks and it just cost them their future. 

Utah Jazz: A-

The Jazz were only involved in the trade to help make the finances go through. They didn’t have to get rid of anyone which is a win and gained two 2nd round draft picks for this upcoming draft in the process. This was a solid move by the Jazz to get involved and take the salary dump of Hood-Schifino.
