#2 Houston vs. #1 Baylor: This is a matchup between two strong Texas teams. Baylor has definitely proven to be one of the strongest teams offensively and defensively. In the tournament so far, the Bears are averaging close to 80 ppg and have held their opponents to within a range of 55 to 60 points. They have also had 10 or less turnovers in each of their tournament games. Meanwhile, the Cougars haven’t proven to be as offensively powerful as the Bears averaging nearly 20 less points with an average of 64 ppg, but they have proven to be quite the defensive force by forcing double-digit turnovers in each of their tournament wins. Overall, while the Cougars have had an impressive run in the tournament, the Bears are going to be the toughest opponent that they have faced so far and it’s likely that they will be just too strong to handle and the Bears will be moving on for a chance to win the national title.
#11 UCLA vs. #1 Gonzaga: This matchup is the battle of two great storylines. On one side is a Bruins squad who just became only the second team in NCAA tournament history to start in the First Four and make it all the way to the Final Four. On the other side, we have a Bulldogs team who is trying to become the first undefeated champion since Indiana completed the feat in 1976. It was an impressive win by the Bruins as they held a strong Michigan Wolverines squad who was averaging at least 80 ppg to their lowest point total of the tournament at 49 points. However, their offense was not as impressive as one player accounted for more than half of their points, that being Johnny Juzang who scored 28 points of the ending total of 51 points. Meanwhile, this Bulldogs team has not slowed down with averaging about 90 ppg and they just showed a great defensive effort by holding a scolding-hot Trojans team who was averaging close to 60% from the three-point line to less than half that at about 26%. Overall, while this Cinderella run by the Bruins has been amazing to watch, this Bulldogs squad is more than likely going to be the team to bring that to an end and continue on their path to becoming an undefeated champion.
