Super Bowl LIV features the defensive juggernaut in the San Francisco 49ers against the surging Kansas City Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs are in the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years and the 49ers are in the Super Bowl for the 7th time in the history of the franchise. For many players, this is their first Super Bowl appearance and are seeking to make the most out of it. Today, we’ll predict which players will shine in this year’s Super Bowl and make a difference in the big game for each team.
Kansas City Chiefs Offense – Demarcus Robinson
Demarcus Robinson had a hot start to the season but has since slowed down with multiple weeks throughout the season without a reception. Robinson had a mediocre game against the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship game. Robinson has not spent much time in the spotlight, but what better time than the Super Bowl to step up their game. Robinson is often overlooked and with the Kelce-Hill-Hardman combo being the top threat to the 49ers defense, Robinson can slip unnoticed by the 49ers deep secondary. Robinson could easily blow up for a massive game like the one he did against Oakland in week 2 of the season. Robinson will be a difference maker for the Chiefs as their primary receiving threats will most likely be double-teamed by the tough 49ers defense.
San Francisco 49ers Offense – Jimmy Garoppolo
Jimmy G, the former backup behind Tom Brady is now the leader behind the San Francisco 49ers offense. After suffering a gruesome season-ending injury in his first year with the 49ers, Jimmy G has played a big part in the 49ers Super Bowl run. Jimmy G has not been a top-tier quarterback from a stats perspective, but that’s not what is needed of him in the golden city. Jimmy G gets the job done and does it well. He doesn’t need to pass for 300 yards a game to be effective, but the Super Bowl is as good as time as any for Garoppolo to thrive under pressure with a big performance that will show off his winning mentality. The 49ers are widely regarded as a defensive powerhouse thanks to the efforts of Nick Bosa and Richard Sherman, but Garopollo has young receiving corps that are emerging as top-tier receivers. Garopollo with the help of George Kittle and Deebo Samuel can emerge victorious.
Kansas City Chiefs Defense – Charvarius Ward
The undrafted second-year cornerback out of Middle Tennessee State has made a name for himself in the National Football League by his toughness and eagerness to win. Ward has quietly been an x-factor for the Kansas City Defense. Ward has racked up 74 total tackles which is 4th total for their entire defensive unit and is tied for 3rd in interceptions with 2 for the season. With San Francisco having a weaker receiving corps compared to the Chiefs, Ward is used to practicing with major threats and now can really shine in his role as a zone hawk. The defensive backs for Kansas City will be a real challenge for Garopollo and the 49ers offense.
San Francisco 49ers Defense – DeForest Buckner
The 49ers defense is packed with pro bowlers and superstars that receive all the spotlight, but DeForest Buckner is often overlooked with the talent he is surrounded by. DeForest Buckner has been a dominant force in the 49ers defense with his 7.5 sacks and 62 total tackles. Buckner also managed 2 forced fumbles during the regular season. Buckner is a quiet force to be reckoned with and can completely take over a ballgame. The 49ers have Nick Bosa, Richard Sherman, Dee Ford, and Arik Armstead who all will be in the center of attention for the Chiefs offense to be wary of, but Buckner will now step up his game even more so on the biggest stage of his life with millions of eyes watching his incredible performance. Buckner can be the X-Factor for the 49ers winning the Super Bowl.
These players aren’t always seen as the biggest names for their respective teams, but are known as difference makers when their time comes around. Some players will fall and others will get their 15 minutes of glory as they triumph amongst the NFL’s best. The “Montana Bowl” will be one for the ages and our experts predict that the San Francisco 49ers will come out on top as their defense will prevail over the high-power offense led by Mahomes. The San Francisco 49ers are not as flashy as the Chiefs but their toughness and ferociousness will be what gets the job done this year in Miami.
