Week 1 of the NFL Season is in the books and was full of surprises, both good and bad. Week 2 is here and we’ll be breaking down our predictions for each matchup. Through Week 1, we were 12-4 in predicting matchups
Washington Commanders at Green Bay Packers
The first Thursday Night game on Prime of the NFL season features two undefeated teams in the Washington Commanders and Green Bay Packers. The Commanders offense didn’t do much to impress, but the defense shut down Russell Wilson. The Commanders defense now faces a Packers offense that lit up Detroit, scoring 27 points. Not only did the Packers do that, they held their own and were in control the entire game against Detroit, who had the highest scoring offense in 2024. The Packers were very impressive and looked like a legitimate Super Bowl contender. The Packers will start off the year by beating 2 other NFC heavyweights and put the league on blast.
Winner: Green Bay Packers
Jacksonville Jaguars at Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals continue to start off the year looking a little rusty, but this time, they were able to pull off the road victory. They return home to face another undefeated team in the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars rush attack was lethal against the Carolina Panthers as Travis Etienne stormed his way to 143 yards. The Jaguars should continue exposing the Bengals defense and expecting another high-scoring game from Jacksonville. Unfortunately, it won’t be enough to get past Joe Burrow & the Bengals offense who outperforms Trevor Lawrence to get the win.
Winner: Cincinnati Bengals
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys
The New York Giants & Dallas Cowboys both start off the season with 2 NFC East divisional rivalry matchups. The Giants lost 21-7 to the Commanders in a game where they only put up 231 total yards of offense. The Cowboys on the other hand looked pretty good offensively, but ultimately came up short to Philadelphia. The Cowboys have the better offense and expect another big performance from CeeDee Lamb in week 2 on the Cowboys’ path to victory.
Winner: Dallas Cowboys
Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions
The Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions opened the season with games that they wish they could forget. The Chicago Bears had a 17-6 lead late in the game and collapsed. The Lions on the other hand, were never even close to winning and had an embarrassing performance on offense. It’ll say a lot about the remaining season outlook after this game. This is also Ben Johnson’s first time facing his former team and early in the year. After week 1, Ben Johnson and the new look Bears have not impressed us. It’s forgivable for the Lions facing Green Bay to have a poor showing, but for the Bears to pull the choke job, we can’t get past that, Detroit takes the redemption game.
Winner: Detroit Lions
Los Angeles Rams at Tennessee Titans
Cam Ward’s professional debut was one to forget. He had 112 passing yards with zero touchdowns and a completion percentage of 43%. To give Ward credit, it was against a defense featuring the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in Patrick Surtain II. But of the 28 passes, only 8 were to Ridley, so Ward has 20 other throws that need to be accounted for. Ward was also sacked 6 times. This was not a great start and another defense that makes things difficult for opposing quarterbacks is the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams have the reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year in Jared Verse. The Rams pass rush featuring Verse and Byron Young are not one to take lightly. The Rams just shut down CJ Stroud and the Texans, the Titans should be a walk in the park.
Winner: Los Angeles Rams
New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins looked like the worst team in football in Week 1 as they got absolutely torched by Daniel Jones and the Colts. After that blowout, one would think that the Dolphins are out of the water in Week 2, but that is not the case. We like the Dolphins playing at home against a New England team that also lost their first game of the season. The Patriots played their game at home and lost to the Raiders. The Dolphins are a home team and over the last two years, are 12-5 playing at Hard Rock Stadium. Despite the low scores from both teams in week 1, this game should see improvement from both offenses in scoring. Drake Maye will capitalize on the Dolphins weak secondary and the Dolphins shake off whatever dust we saw in week 1 to get one in the win column before they travel to Buffalo in week 3..
Winner: Miami Dolphins
San Francisco 49ers at New Orleans Saints
The Saints offense looked exactly like we expected it to with Spencer Rattler under center. Rattler had a 58% completion percentage which surprisingly is one of his better games he’s had in his career. That game was against the Arizona Cardinals who gave up 343 yards per game last year. They now have a much tougher matchup against the San Francisco 49ers who have a top-10 defense. The 49ers defense is healthy and even with the injuries on the offense, the 49ers don’t need to do much to beat New Orleans. This will be one of the biggest blowouts of the week.
Winner: San Francisco 49ers
Buffalo Bills at New York Jets
Both the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets played in thrillers that came down to the wire, ending in a last-minute field goal. The Buffalo Bills were on the winning side of it, beating the Ravens 41-40 after being down 15. The Jets on the other hand, lost to former quarterback Aaron Rodgers 34-32. They were both very close games with both teams playing very well. The Ravens were the better of the two opponents each faced and speaks volumes to how big of a win it was. Josh Allen won the MVP For a reason and played like it this past weekend. Josh Allen continues his reign of terror over the next two weeks against his AFC East foes.
Winner: Buffalo Bills
Seattle Seahawks at Pittsburgh Steelers
Sam Darnold and Aaron Rodgers both joined new teams this offseason. They had very different debuts with Sam Darnold not throwing a single touchdown, while Aaron Rodgers lit up the Jets defense with 4 touchdowns. For Darnold, it wasn’t due to lack of effort, he completed 70% of passes, but only one receiver had more than 16 yards and that was Jaxon Smith-Njigba. For Rodgers, he had 5 players above that number and 4 different players with a touchdown. Rodgers looked great, a much improved version than what we saw last year. He might not be his 2021 MVP self anymore, but he’s still slinging balls around and performing which is good enough to win games in this league. He’ll pick up another win as the Steelers move to 2-0, thanks to another multi-touchdown game coming from Rodgers.
Winner: Pittsburgh Steelers
Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens
The Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens both lost by a single point. The difference is the Browns lost at home against a Bengals team that always starts the season rough. The Ravens lost on the road on Sunday Night Football against the reigning MVP in one of the greatest SNF matches we’ve ever seen. The Ravens offense was phenomenal except for the lone Derrick Henry fumble. The Bills defense was lit up, but the Browns defense is going to get torn apart by Derrick Henry who puts on another clinic.
Winner: Baltimore Ravens
Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts
Two teams that were very surprising in week 1 were the Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts. For the Denver Broncos, it was a shock that they did not blow the Tennessee Titans out of the water. The game was in Denver and the offense just did not look good. Bo Nix had multiple turnovers in the game, barely threw over 170 yards, and nothing was clicking. The defense was fine, mostly with Patrick Surtain II keeping Calvin Ridley in check. The Broncos just did not look elite. On the other side, a team that looked elite out of nowhere was the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts dominated the Miami Dolphins, winning 33-8. The Dolphins made Daniel Jones look like an elite quarterback. The Broncos are the better team on paper, but the momentum is all Indianapolis and they stay at home for a 2nd week in a row. The Colts start a surprising 2-0 before they go on the road.
Winner: Denver Broncos
Carolina Panthers at Arizona Cardinals
Neither the Carolina Panthers nor the Arizona Cardinals looked good in Week 1 and this game should be another doozy. The Cardinals did get the win in week 1 against New Orleans and they should go 2-0 against a Carolina team that was blown out by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Panthers only production came in garbage time.
Winner: Arizona Cardinals
Philadelphia Eagles at Kansas City Chiefs
The Super Bowl rematch between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will be played at Arrowhead Stadium. The Eagles won their first matchup of the year and the Chiefs lost in a nail-biter against the Chargers. The Chiefs only lost 2 games in the entire regular season last year and this year, they’re going to lose their first two. This will be the first time the Chiefs will start the season 0-2 since 2014, the last time the Chiefs failed to make the playoffs. Now it’s unlikely for them to miss the playoffs as the road ahead looks better, but the Eagles dominated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The Eagles team is mostly intact and they are going to expose the youth on the Chiefs offensive line. The Chiefs also lost Xavier Worthy to a shoulder injury last week and they will still be without Rashee Rice. The Eagles are going to capitalize on that and pull off the road victory to go to 2-0.
Winner: Philadelphia Eagles
Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings
A battle of sophomore quarterbacks who don’t have much professional experience when Michael Penix Jr and the Falcons square off against JJ McCarthy and the Vikings. The Falcons lost to the Buccaneers on a last second shanked field goal and the Vikings pulled off the comeback win in Chicago on Monday Night Football. Overall, the Falcons looked like the better team throughout the whole game compared to the Vikings who were dormant in the first half. But, with the talent that the Vikings have on both sides of the ball, they get the slight edge in a game that can really go either way.
Winner: Minnesota Vikings
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Houston Texans
Despite the Buccaneers getting the win in week 1, they were a little disappointing. They needed a missed field goal from the Falcons to win. The real disappointment was the lack of a run game. The Texans also lacked a run game in week 1 which was not surprising with Joe Mixon on the PUP list, but also the pass game. It was disappointing to see Nico Collins only have 3 catches for a whopping 25 yards. Collins is a top receiver in this league and when he only gets 5 targets in shorter run routes, this is not the way the Texans need to play if they want to win football games. If they continue down this route, they are going to lose more games, including this one against a tougher Buccaneers defense.
Winner: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Los Angeles Chargers at Las Vegas Raiders
The Chargers pulled off a huge victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Brazil. Justin Herbert had an electric performance with 300+ yards and 3 touchdowns as he held his own against the tough Chiefs defense. The Raiders defense is significantly worse, especially in the secondary than the Chiefs. Herbert and the Chargers offense is going to take advantage of that and light them up. Chargers win big on Monday Night Football.
