After contract talks have continued to stall, Terry McLaurin has requested a trade. If the Commanders decide to honor that request, a lot of teams should be calling. We’ll be looking at the top 3 teams that should be making a move for the veteran receiver.
San Francisco 49ers
It would be so ironic if the San Francisco 49ers made a move for Terry McLaurin after trading away Deebo Samuel to the Commanders earlier in the offseason. The Commanders only had to give up a 5th round pick to get Deebo. Terry is a better player than Deebo, but with how high of a payday he is looking for, the Commanders either need to pay up or move on from the disgruntled star. The 49ers could use receiving help with both Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings recovering from injury. Add onto that, they also lost Deebo Samuel as we mentioned earlier who was their next best option. Terry McLaurin would be the top option on the team and when fully healthy, their wide receiver room would be amongst the best in the league.
Las Vegas Raiders
A team that made big changes to their offense this offseason is the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders traded for quarterback Geno Smith and then drafted the top running back in the class in Ashton Jeanty. The Raiders offense was one of the worst in the league last year and should already see improvement with Geno and Jeanty, but adding an established Pro Bowl wideout like McLaurin can be huge. McLaurin would be the 2nd best option on the team behind all-pro tight end Brock Bowers and would instantly help this team be competitive. The Raiders would not be a preferred destination for McLaurin, but they have the 4th most cap space and can afford to pay him what he’s asking. If the Raiders throw the Commanders an offer, it might be in best interest for all parties involved to proceed with it.
Tennessee Titans
When your own quarterback calls your offense “mid”, then you know you have a problem. That is what #1 overall pick Cam Ward said about his own team. This is not something you want to hear your quarterback, who is your supposed leader, say, especially when they are only a rookie. But Cam Ward is right, the Titans offense is mid, they have a lot of work to do. Outside of Calvin Ridley, the team lacks depth in the receiving corps. McLaurin would overtake Ridley as the WR1 and be a big upgrade for the offense. He also would help Cam Ward adjust to the NFL. Something the team never gave Will Levis the chance to truly do.
