The 2024 NFL Season saw 7 head coaches fired. There’s always going to be a carousel of coaches and 2025 looks to be no different. We’re going to be looking at 3 big-name head coaches who currently are on the hot seat entering 2025.
Mike McDaniel, Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins currently have the longest streak in the NFL without a playoff win. The Dolphins have had a couple opportunities in recent years under head coach Mike McDaniel, but have fallen flat. McDaniel’s ability to lead when it mattered most was just not there, poor time management is where they faltered. The window for them to win a playoff game is running out as Tyreek Hill is getting up there in age, the defense is collapsing, and Tua’s injury concerns are a massive liability. We don’t see them winning a playoff game anytime soon, but if they fail to make the playoffs for another year in a row, McDaniel should get the boot.
Brian Daboll, New York Giants
After a breakout 2022 season that saw him win NFL Coach of the Year, Brian Daboll’s next two years with the New York Giants were a major step back. The Giants ownership is still riding high from Daboll winning the team’s first playoff win in over 10 years. A big portion of the success in 2022 came from the play of quarterback Daniel Jones who earned himself a big payday as a result. In 2023, Jones missed most of the season with a neck injury and then 2024 his play regressed which led to the Giants parting ways with him. The tumultuous past two years of Daniel Jones is likely what’s kept Brian Daboll in his job. The team brought in a trio of new quarterbacks in Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Jaxson Dart that all are an improvement. The Giants shouldn’t make the playoffs, but if they can make it to 8-9 or 9-8, that should be enough for Daboll to save his job for one more year.
Zac Taylor, Cincinnati Bengals
Zac Taylor led the Cincinnati Bengals to an unexpected Super Bowl appearance in the 2021 season, a run that seemed to mark the beginning of a new era. However, the team has failed to replicate that success in the years since, raising serious questions about Taylor’s long-term viability. Despite having a franchise quarterback in Joe Burrow and a talented roster, the Bengals have struggled with inconsistency, slow starts, and questionable game management. As expectations have risen, especially with such a competitive AFC landscape, Taylor’s inability to return to deep playoff contention puts him squarely on the hot seat heading into 2025.
