The 2025 NFL Draft Quarterback class is one of the weakest we’ve seen in years. Only 3 players from this class expect to actually see starting action in the NFL. We’ll be breaking down those 3 and the remaining 2 prospects who round out the top 5 quarterback prospects in this class.
#1: Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss
The biggest riser on draft boards over the last 2 months has been Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. At the Senior Bowl and at the NFL Combine, Dart has been the lone consistent quarterback. Consistency was one of his biggest concerns earlier in draft process, but during 2 of the big events to showcase his talent, he’s shined. Dart is our #1 quarterback in this class, even though most draft boards have him behind Ward and Sanders. Dart had the highest rating of eligible quarterbacks at 180.4 in 2024. This was coming off his best campaign with finishing 3rd in the nation in passing yards in a tough SEC. Despite being projected to go on day 2, we have Dart as #1 and love what the young quarterback has to offer.
#2: Cam Ward, Miami (FL)
Likely, the first quarterback to be drafted is Miami quarterback Cam Ward. One of the best transfers through the transfer portal was Cam Ward who started off his collegiate career at Incarnate Word then transferred to Washington State before finishing off with the best season at Miami. Ward led all quarterbacks in passing touchdowns with 39 and why he finished top 5 in Heisman voting. Arguably the most NFL ready quarterback of any on this list as he consistently performed even when his team didn’t show up like in the losses against Syracuse and Georgia Tech. This is an admirable feature that has him high on our draft board and should transition well in the pros.
#3: Shedeur Sanders, Colorado
Following his father from Jackson State to Colorado and thriving in each season is Shedeur Sanders. In his most recent year, Sanders finished 4th in passing yards and 2nd in passing touchdowns. It’s easier to finish with these stats when you have someone as good as Travis Hunter as your #1 wideout. Sanders also benefited from an easier schedule and a very favorable offense. Sanders is trying to live up to his father’s legacy and we expect him to do well in the NFL, but nowhere near his father or the other two quarterbacks above him on this list. The talent level he’ll play against in the pros is much more difficult than anything he’s faced thus far.
#4: Kyle McCord, Syracuse
The nation’s leader in passing is Kyle McCord out of Syracuse with an impressive 4,779 yards on the year. Transferring to Syracuse might have been the best thing to happen to his draft stock as he went from throwing 3,000 yards in 2023 to leading the nation in 2024. McCord wasn’t guaranteed to be the starter in 2024 and why he made the decision to leave. Putting up that many yards at Syracuse, when your team doesn’t have a top receiver is impressive. McCord has one of the biggest arms in this class and gives us flashes of Brock Purdy, a rock solid system quarterback.
#5: Tyler Shough, Louisville
After McCord, it is a complete toss up on who to put as the 5th best quarterback in this class. You can go with Gabriel who finished top 5 in Heisman voting or you can go for Jalen Milroe, a former 1st round draft prospect. We’re not going with either and instead opting for Louisville prospect Tyler Shough. Shough has the most experience of the guys on this list, but that’s also a problem with longevity. He’s already 25 years old and is a better version of Sam Hartman. Shough will make a good backup and should be a day 2 pick, but could end up falling to day 3. His arm is his talent, but when faced with pressure, being able to adapt is not his strong suit. We don’t love Shough here, but we prefer him over Gabriel, Milroe, and Rourke.
