Reseeding the Sweet 16 Teams in 2025 NCAA Tourney

We’re down to the Sweet 16 in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. This has been a tournament that hasn’t had many upsets or surprises, but there is still opportunity for that ahead. We’ll be reseeding the remaining sweet 16 teams.

#1: Duke

In absolute commanding fashion, the Duke Blue Devils have powered their way into the Sweet 16. The Blue Devils won their first game by over 40 points and then stomped Baylor by over 20 points. This is the largest combined margin of victory of any team in the tournament thus far. The one-two punch of Flagg and Proctor is going to be tough for any team to beat.

#2: Houston

After blowing SIUE out of the water, the Houston Cougars had a very tough draw in their round of 32 against a KenPom top 10 team in Gonzaga. The matchup against Gonzaga will be tougher than their next potential 2 matchups. Gonzaga got poor luck in drawing the #8 seed and is why they ended up being eliminated so early. Gonzaga was able to put up some points against Houston, but for future opponents facing the #1 defense in the nation is not going to fare as well for them.

#3: Florida

Dan Hurley might be the only one who has this team outside the top 3 schools in college basketball. Hurley missed out on the opportunity of a 3peat as his UConn squad fell to the Gators in a thriller. The Gators scare does not concern us as that matchup was going to be a difficult one. The road to the final 4 looks a little bit easier from here for the 3rd highest scoring team in the country. We like the Gators a lot and it’s going to take a hurricane to knock this team out of the tournament. They’re our 2nd favorite team remaining.

#4: Auburn

The #1 overall seed entering the tournament has not been playing like the best team of the tournament. They might have won by double digits in their first two games of the tournament, but we expected these to be complete blowouts. In their first game against Alabama State, they didn’t start to run away with the game until halfway through the second half. Against Creighton, they were down at the half and needed a late run to pull away from the Bluejays. Bruce Pearl’s squad is still deserving of a #1 line, but not #1 overall.

#5: Alabama

This Alabama team doesn’t win by a lot, but they can sure put up a lot of points. The Crimson Tide lead the nation in points per game and rebounds per game. Their two next potential matchups would be against fellow top 25 schools in scoring which can set us up for some high-octane games. Alabama’s offense alone is enough to have them as the first non-#1 seed ranked on this list.

#6: Texas Tech

The Red Raiders are one of the best all-around teams in the country. They have two stars in JT Toppin & Darrion Williams. Toppin can significantly increase his draft stock if he can keep putting up the numbers that he has been putting up this tournament. With the one-two punch of Toppin & Williams, this team is dangerous on the #3 line.

#7: Kentucky

In the first year in the Post-Calipari era, the Kentucky Wildcats sit in a familiar place in the Sweet 16. They now face a fellow SEC school in Tennessee who they’ve beaten twice already this season. The Wildcats were the 6th highest scoring team in the country and the 3rd highest remaining in the tournament behind fellow SEC schools in Florida & Alabama. The Wildcats have proven they can score and proven they can beat Tennessee. They’re heading into this game on a mission to prove that Calipari wasn’t the reason for the success or the lack of in certain years.

#8: Michigan State

With one of the winningest coaches in college basketball, Tom Izzo is on the hunt for his 2nd national championship. He hasn’t been to the final 4 since 2019 in a squad that was one of the weaker groups he’s led. This squad is better than that 2019 team and has a budding star in Jase Richardson. Richardson hasn’t shown us his full potential thus far in the tournament, but there’s still time left for him to prove why he is a top 10 pick in this year’s draft.

#9: Tennessee

Tennessee has had this game circled on their calendar once the brackets were announced. They know what’s at stake. They’ve lost to Kentucky twice, but will the third time be the charm? Kentucky is a lightning offense, but Tennessee has a top 10 defense in the nation. Which one will prevail? We like the offense and are fading Kentucky, but it is March after all and anything can happen.

#10: Maryland

The only team to win on a buzzer beater is the Maryland Terrapins. Maryland needed that against #12 seed Colorado State. It was a controversial call on whether or not it was a travel. Regardless, the call was made as it was and the Terps are in the Sweet 16. We have them as the lowest ranked team remaining. They have a star in Derik Queen who can make the difference like he did in the round of 32 matchup and is a potential top 5 NBA Draft Pick. Outside of him, we don’t trust this team to go any further.

#11: BYU

One of the hottest teams in the country entering the tournament was the BYU Cougars. They’ve continued to stay hot by beating a fellow hot streak team in VCU and the Wisconsin Badgers. The win against Wisconsin proves just how talented this BYU team is. They were able to pull off the victory even with John Tonje of Wisconsin dropping an impressive 37 points. BYU had another impressive scorer on their end in Richie Saunders who put up a combined 41 points through two games in the tournament. If he can keep up his hot shooting, then BYU might be looking at an Elite 8 run on their hands.

#12: Purdue

The Boilermakers are a team that many people had exiting this tournament early. With Zach Edey in the NBA, this team took a steep decline in rebounding and defense, but that doesn’t mean they are out of the water. They’ve proved doubters wrong thus far with back to back double digit victories. Albeit, both their games have been against teams seeded #12 or higher, so they haven’t faced true competition yet which is why they are lower on this list.

#13: Arizona

The 2nd Wildcats team remaining has been fueled by Caleb Love. The senior guard dropped 29 points against a good Oregon team. Arizona has been great so far but Duke lies ahead and they are unstoppable right now.

#14: Michigan

After narrowly surviving the UC San Diego Tritons in the round of 64, the Michigan Wolverines put on a clinic against the Texas A&M Aggies. The game was never in sight from the start as the Wolverines maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the game. The Wolverines have the opportunity to be in another Big Ten – SEC matchup when they play the Auburn Tigers in what should be a matchup you’ll want to watch.

#15: Arkansas

If there’s one person that knows March basketball almost better than anyone left, it’s coach John Calipari. Calipari is seeking to become the first coach to take 4 different teams to the final 4. The Razorbacks have a tough road ahead if Calipari wants to accomplish that feat this year as a matchup against a tough Texas Tech squad lies ahead. Calipari has the superior coaching, but the Red Raiders are going to be difficult and then they would also need to win in the Elite 8 as well. The Razorbacks deserve credit though for being a #10 seed to pull off back to back upsets against a Kansas team coached by Bill Self and a St. John’s team coached by Rick Pitino. They are also the highest seeded team remaining in the tournament.

#16: Ole Miss

For only the 2nd time in school history, the Ole Miss Rebels are in the Sweet 16. The last time that happened was in 2001 where they lost to #2 Arizona. Unfortunately, they face another #2 seed in Michigan State. This Ole Miss team barely beat a UNC team that should not have made the tournament and then won against a battered Iowa State team. Odds are this is the end of the road for the Rebels and our lowest ranked team remaining.
