The Detroit Lions were the #1 overall team in the NFL heading into the postseason and the consensus favorite to make the Super Bowl from the NFC, but collapsed during the NFC Divisional Round to Washington. What happened and what’s next for them?
The Lions were nearly double digit favorites, but ended up losing by 14 to Washington on their own home turf. The Commanders jumped off to an early lead and Detroit was never able to catch up. The rookie Jayden Daniels looked and played like a seasoned vet. He held his composure very well on his way to 299 yards and winning his first 2 playoff games. The triple option was too much for the Lions defense and they could not figure out how to contain the rookie playmaker.
For Detroit, a shocking blow like this brings a huge blow to fans, especially after expectations were so high. This loss had problems on both sides of the ball, the offense with Goff’s turnovers & the defense just not being able to contain the Commanders. For the offensive side, they need to add another receiver alongside Amon-Ra St.Brown, a true #2 option for Goff. In moments where Goff struggled, he was looking for an open receiver and there was just nobody open. Jameson has the speed to make plays happen once he has the ball but as a true receiver, he’s not a #2 guy, he’s a deep threat. The Lions need to bring in somebody for Goff if they want to compete with the elite. The Lions are at threat of losing offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator’s Ben Johnson & Aaron Glenn. Both are reputable names in the coaching market and if they do lose them, they need to get somebody in fast. With a lot of the core talent on the team still retained on contract, we’re expecting big things from the Lions in the future and this is not the end of the road for them, we expect to see them in a NFC Championship again within the next 3 seasons.
