The first half of the season has concluded and we’re getting a look at who’s a contender, who’s a pretender, and who is just downright bad. There’s a couple teams still on the fence and this week should help answer some of those questions. We’ll be breaking down those borderline teams and every matchup this week. Through 9 weeks, our record predicting games is 88-48.
Carolina Panthers at Chicago Bears
The worst team in the NFL faces another bottom dweller team in the NFL in what’s set to be the most forgettable Thursday Night Football game of the year. Justin Fields is still out which gives Carolina a chance. We think they’ll take advantage of that opportunity and get a win on the road which doesn’t matter to the Bears who wins this game as they own the Panthers first round pick.
Winner: Carolina Panthers
Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots
Over the next few weeks, the Indianapolis Colts have a lot of very winnable games with this being one of them. Bill Belichick seems like he’s on his way out and has mentally checked out. This makes this game even more of a chance for Indianapolis to make their way to .500 and shouldn’t have a problem doing so.
Winner: Indianapolis Colts
Green Bay Packers at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers just find ways to win games despite having a negative point differential and getting outgained on the field. It’s a testament to their defense led by TJ Watt who keeps them in their games. Watt and company should do a fine job containing the struggling Jordan Love and squeak out another narrow victory to move to 6-3.
Winner: Pittsburgh Steelers
Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens
This is a huge game in terms of playoff implications as the Baltimore Ravens lead the AFC North and the Browns aren’t super far behind and neither are their fellow AFC North teams in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. The Browns offense is struggling making this game even more of a matchup between two defensive juggernauts. The Baltimore offense is better and we think that Lamar Jackson getting a win in this game can put him in the MVP conversation.
Winner: Baltimore Ravens
Tennessee Titans at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tennessee Titans have committed to Will Levis the rest of the season with Tannehill injured and the success he had in his debut for the Titans. This is a bold move meaning that the Titans don’t see themselves as a contender in the AFC South and are likely missing the playoffs. A team that is fighting to make the playoffs are the Buccaneers in a wide open NFC South and every win counts for them right now.
Winner: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
San Francisco 49ers at Jacksonville Jaguars
The 49ers are losers of 3 straight and Jacksonville is proving they are here to stay. Both teams are coming off a bye week and are ready to get the second half of the season kicked off. This game will say a lot about where Jacksonville stands as they should get the win with several players on the 49ers still dealing with lingering injuries that will keep them limited such as Deebo Samuel. It’ll be a close game and we’re excited for this matchup to be one of the better games of the week.
Winner: Jacksonville Jaguars
New Orleans Saints at Minnesota Vikings
Surprisingly, both New Orleans and Minnesota enter this game with a 5-4 record. It’s mainly a surprise based on the ways these teams are playing. The Saints offense has been very inconsistent and the Vikings started off 1-4 and are winners of 4 straight with one of those wins against the 49ers. The Vikings are playing like the better team now even with Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson out. We think they’re going to give the Lions a run for their money as it comes down the stretch and with a win this weekend and Lions loss, they’re one step closer to doing so.
Winner: Minnesota Vikings
Houston Texans at Cincinnati Bengals
Two former Ohio State quarterbacks square off with CJ Stroud coming off the best game a rookie quarterback has ever had and Joe Burrow who has his Bengals sitting at 5-3. We have a lot of respect for what Stroud managed to do last week in a wild ending against Tampa Bay, but the Bengals are just heating up and they don’t look like they’re slowing down anytime soon.
Winner: Cincinnati Bengals
Atlanta Falcons at Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals have activated Kyler Murray off the injury report and all signs point to him starting in this game. If that is the case, that is huge news for Arizona fans as they are getting sick of this team losing week in and week out. Will Kyler Murray be enough to get this bad Arizona team’s season turned around and have some saving grace? The answer to that is no but we think they can beat Atlanta because Arthur Smith is one of the worst coaches in the NFL who baffles us with not utilizing the several weapons on his offense like Bijan Robinson and Kyle Pitts.
Winner: Arizona Cardinals
Detroit Lions at Los Angeles Chargers
This is one of the most underrated games of the week that we recommend tuning into if you can. The Lions sit atop the NFC North and the Chargers have gotten back to .500 and are looking to make a run. Both teams have solid offenses that can put up points and have some problems on defense. The Chargers always seem to stay close in games no matter who they’re playing and we think that they could pull off a big win here to show that the Lions are pretenders in the NFC.
Winner: Los Angeles Chargers
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys
With Daniel Jones out for the season and Tyrod Taylor also out, the Giants are going to need to start Tommy DeVito who’s appeared in the last couple games after Jones and Taylor went down. The Giants also lost Darren Waller and have several other injuries on the team. This game against Dallas is going to be a bloodbath and we think that the Cowboys can cover the spread for however high it ends up getting.
Winner: Dallas Cowboys
Washington Commanders at Seattle Seahawks
Neither the Commanders nor Seahawks have looked great this year, but the Seahawks should prevail in this game and we think they won’t be as good as their 6-3 record will say they are. The Seahawks have barely won games they’ve been in as well as the Commanders and we think this will be another game that Seattle barely survives.
Winner: Seattle Seahawks
New York Jets at Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders showed a lot of promise last week after the firing of coach Josh McDaniels and benching of Jimmy Garoppolo. We think this is a sign of things to come for the Raiders as they enter a new journey for their franchise and it’s going in the right direction. The Raiders getting a home game couldn’t have come at a better time to get the fans on board with the change as well and a matchup against New York means a home victory will spark new life into this organization.
Winner: Las Vegas Raiders
Denver Broncos at Buffalo Bills
Von Miller goes up against his former team in what’s not going to be a revenge game but it’s still going to be a beatdown on the Denver Broncos. The Bills offense needs to get their act together and no better time to do it than demolishing a team that gave up 70 points to their division rival Miami.
