2023 Fantasy Football Week 5: Start Em’ or Sit Em’ Quarterbacks

Each week we’ll break down three players that should start in your fantasy lineup and three that would be better left on the bench per position. There are players like Patrick Mahomes & Josh Allen who are matchup proof and should be in your starting lineups every week barring a major circumstance.

Quarterbacks to Start:

CJ Stroud

Stroud has been playing as a top 5 overall quarterback this year as a rookie. He has been very impressive and has been one of the biggest surprises of the year. The Texans quarterback is our start of the week against Atlanta.

Matthew Stafford

Cooper Kupp is back and it hasn’t even felt like he’s been missed much with the emergence of breakout rookie Puka Nacua. It’ll be interesting to see how Nacua does with Kupp back in the mix, but for Matthew Stafford that just means more options. Stafford gets him back just in time for a matchup on Eagles and he should have a big showing to put them on upset alert.

Jared Goff

The lone winless team remaining is the Carolina Panthers. The 3-1 Detroit Lions are fortunate enough to face them this week which means a clinic being put on by the Lions offense. Jared Goff should have multiple touchdowns and connect with Amon-Ra St. Brown & rookie Sam LaPorta for a big game.

Quarterbacks to Sit:

Brock Purdy

The Niners quarterback has proven to the world that he is relevant and every time he plays, he continues to amaze us. We’re surprised by what the young quarterback has been able to do. This is going to be one of the biggest games of his regular season career against a tough Cowboys defense on Sunday Night Football. We still expect Purdy to have a decent game but the Cowboys defense limits his numbers from what we’ve been seeing from him thus far this season.

Dak Prescott

On the other side of the Cowboys and Niners matchup is Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott. Similar to Kirk Cousins, Dak doesn’t always do great in primetime matchups. Dak and the Cowboys tend to choke those matchups. The Cowboys are going to do that here and Dak isn’t going to be able to do enough to get the Cowboys to win or to be worthy of a starting spot on your fantasy team.

Joe Burrow

We thought he’d be a top 5 overall player on the year but rather has been a bottom 10 quarterback so far. It’s been a disappointing season for Joe Burrow & the Bengals. The Bengals should rest Burrow, but instead are going to play him with an injured calf. This isn’t helping him or the team and he’s going to continue to struggle and bring everyone else down with him. The Bengals struggle against Arizona with Burrow still injured.
