2023 Fantasy Football Week 3: Start Em’ or Sit Em’ Wide Receivers

Each week we’ll break down one player that should start in your fantasy lineup and one that would be better left on the bench per position. There are players like Justin Jefferson and Tyreek Hill who are matchup proof and should be in your starting lineups every week barring a major circumstance.

Wide Receivers to Start:

Nico Collins

The Texans run game has been non-existent, but CJ Stroud has been throwing the ball heavily so far. This has put young receiver Nico Collins in the #1 receiver role in Houston. Nico Collins is seeing a high volume of targets and that should only continue to increase as Stroud becomes more experienced. In a game against Jacksonville where they will be playing from behind, Stroud should have a high passing yardage day and Collins is someone you can potentially slide into your flex.

Zay Flowers

Zay Flowers has emerged as the #1 receiving option on the Baltimore Ravens. With the Baltimore Ravens shifting more towards a pass first offense rather than putting it all on Lamar’s legs, the Ravens have been playing surprisingly well on offense. Zay Flowers should continue to develop throughout the year and is worth starting at flex.

Michael Pittman Jr

With Anthony Richardson out, Gardner Minshew will be getting the start at quarterback. This is good news for the wide receivers on the Colts. Minshew is a more experienced quarterback who is playing better football right now for the Colts. The top receiver on the Colts that benefits the most is Michael Pittman Jr who should have a better game than he did in the first two weeks.

Wide Receivers to Sit:

Garrett Wilson

From a pure fantasy output, Garrett Wilson hasn’t been bad by any means this year. But that has come from two longer touchdown plays where the bulk of his points came from. Outside of those touchdowns, he hasn’t done much, in fact in last week’s matchup against the Cowboys, Wilson only brought in one other target. With Zach Wilson at quarterback, unfortunately, we have to bench Garrett Wilson, especially against a solid New England secondary.

Marquise Brown

Marquise Brown had himself a solid showing last week against the New York Giants. We don’t think he’ll be able to repeat the same output when going up against another NFC East team in Dallas. Dallas has been the most dominant defensive team in the NFL thus far. Even without Trevon Diggs who is now out for the season, the Cowboys should do just fine in shutting down the Cardinals. Brown is going to be hit or miss this year with Josh Dobbs at quarterback, but against the Cowboys, it’s going to be a no go for starting Brown.

Jahan Dotson

One of the biggest fantasy busts of the season through two weeks has been Jahan Dotson. We’ve been disappointed in seeing this one as we had high hopes for the young receiver. The problem is the offense overall just isn’t clicking and the Commanders are just not a good team. Dotson still is getting projected to do better than he actually will.
