2023 Fantasy Football: 5 Waiver Wire Targets Ahead of Week 2

Week 1 of the fantasy football season is in the books and now it’s time to be preparing for week 2. To help you prep for the week ahead, we’re looking at 5 waiver wire targets you need to be on the hunt for. These players are rostered in less than 50% of fantasy leagues and could help your team stay competitive.

Kenneth Gainwell

The Eagles brought in D’Andre Swift after moving on from Miles Sanders and we thought he was going to be the lead back, but that was not the case in week 1. Swift finished with a single carry for 3 yards. The lead back was Kenneth Gainwell who had 14 carries on the day. This could be the case because Rashaad Penny was inactive, but regardless it was apparent that Gainwell was the starter in Philadelphia. Having the starting running back on a team that just made the Super Bowl is something you should have on your list.

Kendrick Bourne & Hunter Henry

Going into the season, it seemed like newcomers JuJu & Gesicki would play a larger role on the offense, but in week 1, the Patriots stuck with familiar faces in Kendrick Bourne & Hunter Henry to see the bulk of the target share. Both Bourne & Henry are worth the pickup in PPR formats as long as Devante Parker & Tyquan Thornton remain sidelined as they should continue seeing the high volume of targets.

Gus Edwards

This is strictly a replacement pickup if you were unfortunate enough to have picked JK Dobbins. Edwards is the next best in the Ravens running room and is worth an addition to keep on the bench and slot into the flex from time to time.

Jake Moody

Not often, will we have a kicker as someone you need to pick up. However, the 49ers rookie Jake Moody was not someone listed on many people’s draft boards, in fact, Moody was only drafted in less than 20% of leagues. But we learned that the 49ers offense came out gun blazing and is here to stay. Moody should be a benefactor from how good their offense is and should see plenty of field goal & extra point opportunities.
