As we approach the All-Star break, we’ve had a season fll of surprises especially out of the American League where the Rays are the best team in the MLB & the Orioles came out of left field to be a contender. We’ll be breaking down the mid-season award winners in the ALwhich has a couple surprises and then a future hall of famer in the making.
AL MVP: Shohei Ohtani
By far the most exciting player in baseball to watch is the Angels’ Shohei Ohtani. Through this point, Ohtani is top 5 in multiple statistical categories including being 1st in home runs and 2nd in strikeouts. He continues to amaze us as he is dominant both as a pitcher & a hitter which is a feat only few in the history of the sport have even been able to do, yet Ohtani thrives in the role. Ohtani is one of the best players of our generation and no doubt in our minds he is the unanimous MVP for this season.
AL CY Young: Shane McClanahan
The Tampa Bay Rays have surprisingly been the best team in baseball this year despite the amount of injuries they’ve endured. One of the key players who has remained relatively healthy has been Shane McClanahan. McClanahan has been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball with 11 wins and a 2.53 ERA. The Rays will keep on winning as long as McClanhan is on the mound.
AL Rookie of the Year: Josh Jung
In the AL, Josh Junh has been the runaway favorite thus far for the rookie of the year award. Gunnar Henderson was an early contender but he hasn’t gotten off to the hot start we expected him to. It’s been Jung who has been doing well and good enough to be the only name in contention for this award right now.
